The property market in the UK is booming. According to HomeTrack’s latest report (July 2021), even though buyer demand has started to fall from the record levels, it is still well up on more ‘normal’ market condition, and up by +80% when compared to 2017-19 figures.
What does it mean to the building contractor market? That there are numerous projects simultaneously taking place in many areas of the country and the crews working on there often come from places located hundreds of miles from their sites and require somewhere to stay whilst they carry out work on the projects they have been committed to conducting.
The traditional approach, for both larger companies looking for accommodation for their staff and contractors, as well as the self-employed sub-contractors, has always been booking hotels. However, if we consider the comfort of stay and costs, hotels, B&Bs, and guesthouses no longer seem to be the most convenient and cost-effective forms of accommodation.
Why is serviced accommodation the best type of accommodation for contractors?
First of all, it provides much better levels of comfort. Access to a kitchen, a living room, and often an outdoor area, means that the team can truly take advantage of the home away from experience.
In addition to that, serviced houses and apartments when booked for groups of two or more people are a much more cost-effective way of booking accommodation than reserving multiple hotel rooms. Many serviced accommodation properties have been designed with professionals in mind. The rooms often have zip and link beds, which means that they can either be used as separate single beds (ideal when two colleagues need to share a room) or a single king-size bed if a room is given to a single person or a couple. Having twin rather than double beds in the rooms means that you can make your money go even further – instead of renting a four-bedroom house or four hotel rooms for your team of four, you can simply find a much cheaper two-bedroom apartment and have your teams request separate beds when sharing the rooms.
When discussing savings, we must mention one of the main advantages of self-contained units which is the presence of a kitchen. Having a property that provides a kitchen comes with a multitude of benefits, but first and foremost, it means significant savings to your budget! Home-cooked meals are always going o be cheaper than eating out, which means that your money can go much further! Not to mention the fact that it also allows your team to live a healthier lifestyle and alignable to enjoy a home-cooked meal after a whole day’s work.
